Arnhem - A Musical Tribute - Max Bygraves and The Les Reed Orchestra

"The Battle of Arnhem took men of Britain's tough 'Red Berets' to the brink of hell. In nine days, they suffered their largest ever casualty rate, and the Royal Air Force lost more aircraft in that short battle than in any other action in its history. It was an outrageously daring effort to close the war in Europe by six months but intelligence blunders, bad weather and overwhelming German firepower defeated them. Max Bygraves himself was involved in World War 2, as RAF Leading Aircraftsman, working on Mustangs. We were delighted that Max agreed to be part of this tribute project. The powerful songs by Les Reed and Geoff Stephens are a tribute, not only to the bravery of Britain's Elite Airborne forces and the courage of the Dutch people, but to the bond which has grown between them in the 50 years since the battle. It is made more moving by the contribution of the Children of Arnhem - 'Grandchildren' of the unsung heroes of September 1944 - and musicians of the Band of The Parachute Regiment. "Lest We Forget" by The Les Reed Orchestra has become very popular amongst War Veterans, as it features "Abide With Me" and "Auld Langsyne" to a backdrop of "The Last Post".
